Drawing for Stress?

Drawing for stress? Yes, but not for everyone (and that's OK)

Drawing for stress? Yes, but not for everyone (and that's OK)

Not everyone deals with stress in the same way.

Some people choose the gym and leave their tension in the weights. Others prefer to write something unkind in a TikTok comment and feel relief. And then there are those who simply reach for paint.

Painting as a way to deal with stress might sound trivial, but it really works. And often, surprisingly effectively — though not for everyone.

Why does drawing work like art therapy?

Because when the hand draws, the head rests.

Because you don't have to "know how to draw." It's about the process itself, not the result. You can scribble spirals, little creatures, cartoon characters, or completely abstract blobs.

Because it's a safe form of expressing emotion — without words, without judgment, without pressure.

Do you ever find yourself doodling with a pen while you're on a long phone call?

Circles, squares, meaningless lines? That's exactly it — the simplest form of spontaneous art therapy.

Drawing works before you even realize you're drawing.

The only thing is... actually starting on your own is a different matter

Sounds simple: "sit down and draw something." But in practice?

You need paper, something to draw with. Maybe paint. Maybe brushes. You need to know what to do with it, how it's used. And just that can be discouraging enough.

That's why many people look for an outside excuse:

a workshop, a "paint and wine" evening, a YouTube tutorial, a ready-made masterclass.

Because then you can "legally" doodle, without the pressure of creating something "nice."

And that's fine too.

Not everyone finds relief in drawing — and that's normal

There's no universal method against stress.

For some, sport works better; for others, a solitary walk; and for others still... a TV series marathon.

But if you feel overloaded, overstimulated, and tired of screens —

a sheet of paper can be the cheapest and quietest mental detox.

You don't have to be an artist. You don't have to know "how it's done."

It's enough to let your hand move, and your thoughts — rest.
